TribalDAOs = Indigenous Economic Sovereignty

TribalDAOs is a kaupapa-driven initiative focused on empowering Indigenous communities through decentralised governance and economic sovereignty. Supported by Cardano Project Catalyst – Fund 12, this project explores how Decentralised Autonomous Organisations (DAOs) can be adapted to align with Indigenous values, offering a new way for communities to manage their resources, wealth, and decision-making processes.

Through research, design, and community engagement, TribalDAOs seeks to develop frameworks that reflect the cultural needs and aspirations of Māori and other Indigenous communities, empowering them to govern their economic systems in a decentralised, transparent, and community-led manner.

What We’re Building

Our goal is to create a decentralised ecosystem for Indigenous communities to govern their economic resources through blockchain technology. The project focuses on several key components:

  1. TribalDAO Framework
    We are designing a TribalDAO structure tailored to the needs of Indigenous communities. This framework will explore how DAOs can align with traditional governance systems while ensuring autonomy, transparency, and collective decision-making.
  2. Tokenomics for Indigenous Economies
    A central component of TribalDAOs is developing tokenomics that reflects Māori economic values such as reciprocity, sustainability, and community-based wealth distribution. This will allow communities to create their own economic models using blockchain technology.
  3. Cultural Alignment
    The project integrates Māori cultural perspectives into all aspects of DAO design, ensuring that the systems we build are culturally relevant and accessible. This includes governance models based on traditional Māori decision-making processes and structures that promote social, environmental, and economic well-being for future generations.

Drafts and Working Documents

We are sharing early drafts of our research and ideas for the TribalDAOs Blueprint and Tokenomics. These documents are works in progress, and we invite you to share feedback to help shape the final versions.

TribalDAOs Blueprint V2

The Blueprint outlines the core concepts, frameworks, and ideas we are exploring to create a decentralised governance system for Indigenous communities.
